I learned about bookkeeping when I was working for Seeworthy Media, a small marketing and digital media company. I myself am an amateur theater producer since 2021. I’ve led or worked on four projects, increasing in size and scope every time, and I’ve seen every time how important it is to know your numbers. When you’re not sure how much you’ve spent in the past or how much you can expect to make in the future, you move haphazardly. You don’t think things through in a clear and confident way. Your decisions get worse, and it affects every other part of the business.
My market focus is on arts business, arts education, and small theaters. I have worked in those environments, and I have a good sense of the value and difficulty of those businesses. I also just enjoy meeting and talking to arts and theater people.
I learned the basics of double entry accounting, AR, AP, inventory, and other bookkeeping basics from the Intuit bookkeeping course. I also have a Quickbooks certification. The business is new this year, but I’ve already learned on the job quite a bit.
